Cleaning for the Cleaning Lady

Part of the reason I have no time to blog is because of other time-consuming responsibilities. For instance, when we first moved into this dream house last Dec. I thought I'd be able to keep it clean. But a few months into living here, it was apparent that working full-time and keeping a 3250 sq. foot house as clean as I like it (ok, so I hate clutter and dirt and dust!) was impossible.

So I enlisted the help of cleaning people. They come every other Friday. It is awesome to come home tired at the end of a long week and walk into a sparkling clean house! The only thing is...the night before. I just spent 3 hours cleaning for the cleaning people. And I'm beat. (But the house looks pretty awesome)!

On a completely different topic, I was so saddened to learn of the death of Irish folk singer
Tommy Makem today. I urge everyone who reads this to go to iTunes and download his "Gentle Annie." It is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

It's hard to be a working mom. Cut yourself some slack. HAving a cleaning lady is one of those luxuries I can't live without.

I neaten up for the cleaning service, but it is possible to let them do the actual cleaning. You can break yourself of the cleaning addiction little-by-little. Practice leaving some dirty dishes out, don't put away the kids' toys.... We'll get there together. ;)

For ten weeks earlier this summer and spring, I was on bedrest and had someone helping me with my kids and the apartment for the first time. I was so resistant to the whole idea! Particularly since I wasn't leaving the house to work, or even go anywhere. But we got through it, and now it's just a matter of waiting . . LOL. I can now totally hear what you're saying about straightening up before someone comes to clean!

Why do I bother paying for a cleaning woman. So I can be neglected.

If your husband feels neglected, he should help straighten up with you before the cleaners come.

It's important to straighten up, or the cleaners will put things where you can't find them.

It says in our ketuba that my lovely kallah is responsible for these things.

Assuming that "Your Husband" is your husband, I agree with him on his first point on the second one he should learn to sleep lightly as he may be in grave danger. :-)

Question! why clean before the cleaners arrive that's just vain.

Having had a small cleaning business, trust me we know people are slobs, it's what keeps us in business.

It is not a problem. Since she is always on the computer I have this big EMPTY bed to myself.

It's funny, somehow the hubby's just don't understand why we need to clean if the cleaning folks are coming. Guess it doesn't sound so logical, but I totally understand what you mean. I usually just end up telling them to skip rooms or furniture because I just didn't have time to "get it ready" for them.

Hi
it's nice to see some people haven't given up on blogging yet:)
Cleaning people should be paid like actors are, they're much more useful.

cleaning for the cleaning lady - totally me! well its more organising the house than cleaning it. I can never find anything after she has been. So I get that. How long does it take for the house to get destroyed after teh cleaning team has been? the sparling house doesnt last long over here.....

You should know that cleaning for the cleaning lady is a very common Jewish feature. My mom does that too. But it's a secret outside of Israel, people don't share that so you must have thought you were the only one!

So here's a thought :)

As long as your thread has turned into a free for all I'll make a shameless sales pitch - but honestly, only because you were one of the people I've known from blogging whose response I would have been especially interested in:

Have you bought my book? See my site or just search Original Faith on Amazon.

Yours is the only blog I've "spammed" this way. See what you get for not posting once in a while? "That'll learn ya," as Papa used to say. (Actually, he didn't, and we just called him Dad.)

Ha Ha! I think your husband and I have a lot in common! Right, Sweettooth120?
It is not like you are cleaning because your judgemental mother is coming to visit. What do they care?
Billy, now go vacuum your room before the cleaning person comes to vacuum.
